Who Am I?

My name is Graeme Gerster and I have been involved in photography in one way or another since I was a young boy. I began using 110mm film, as I am sure you did, and worked my way through a few different cameras. After high school I took a different route, away from photography and as a result I work as a Paramedic in my primary occupation. Through this time I continued to hold a passion for photography and my poor wife and daughter were forced to smile and pose for me. This had the great benefit of helping me to practice capturing special moments and to discover my style.

What Are Pictures To Me?

A picture is a moment frozen in time. It tells a story and holds a memory that many people hold dear. As a photographer, it is my job to catch these moments and to do so in a way that is meaningful and beautiful. I believe that these moments are not found in poses and staged events, rather I feel that in order to capture who you are and what is special to you I need to photograph you as you move around and be yourself. Put differently, I like to interfere and tell you what to do as little as possible.

How Do I Capture Memories?

One of the big questions you must have is: How are you going to capture our special moments? Well, through the years I have come to discover that I excel at catching those candid moments when you don't even know that the camera is pointed at you. When photographing an event for you, such as a wedding or party, I like to move around freely so that I might catch those special and emotional memories as they happen and not try to recreate them later. I also do the Traditional posed images that many people like to have because they chronicle the event in their own way, but for me the true moments that people want to see are those that embody real emotion and who they are.

In the end I know it sounds cheesy and most photographers say something similar, but I truly take pleasure in catching moments. Mine or someone elses. It honestly brings me a joy that I don't know how to express to you. This is why I like doing candid, or photojournalistic, images. I think this is the best way to catch you. I really do think that you and I can make some beautiful images and I look forward to working with you.
